Tivoli Cousineau, Marriage and Family Therapist, License #83685

My decision to become a therapist came later in life when I decided to dedicate my creative and spiritual gifts to the service of others.  At varying times, my personal struggles with work or relationships have been greatly helped by caring and empathetic counselors who have assisted me through the painful times and given me the courage and hope to try a new or different path.

I am excited that I have become a Marriage and Family Therapist so that I can help others who are in pain, haunted by their past, or in need of support to find a new approach to their lives.  I am currently in private practice in Culver City where I have the privilege of counseling individuals, couples and families to help them overcome their difficulties and increase their personal sense of well being and the success they experience in their lives.  Concurrently, I am an Addiction Counselor at Kaiser Permanente, in their Addiction Medicine Department where I work with addicts and their famillies.  Previously, I was and addiction and trauma therapist at Cliffside Malibu, an exclusive alcohol and drug rehabilitation program in a luxury estate setting.  Additionally, I worked at Teen Line, a crisis hotline for teenagers at Cedars Sinai Hospital where I assisted teenage listeners handling calls from adolescents from across the United States.  I began my counseling career at the Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC), a sliding scale clinic dedicated to providing high quality/low cost counseling in Los Angeles.  At SCCC, I saw a wide variety of individuals, couples, and families who experienced problems ranging from depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, addiction concerns, to the problems of living and creating as an artist.

I received my M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara.  I bring a nuanced insight to many rehabilitative treatments, as well as a constructive rapport with those struggling with addiction and sobriety. Additionally, my somatic training with EMDR and TRM certification enables me to assist traumatized clients in decreasing their distress and increasing their emotional balance. My recently published thesis, “A Comparative Study of Artists and Creativity Through A Jungian Lens,” (ProQuest, 2012) confirms my affinity with the creative community where I have developed and led a variety of individual and group workshops over the years.
